Public Statement From the Family of Gloria Satterfield

The Attorneys at Bland Richter, LLP , including Eric S. Bland and Ronnie Richter, represent Michael Satterfield and Brian Harriott, the sole heirs and sons of the late Gloria Satterfield. Gloria was Alex Murdaugh’s long-time housekeeper and Nanny. She passed away on 2/16/18 in a trip and fall accident at the Murdaugh family residence, and has now been opened into a criminal investigation with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Their latest Public Statement from the family of Gloria Satterfield is below:

“The Satterfield and Harriott families are grateful for the concerns and well wishes that many South Carolinians and beyond have extended to them. Today is a sad day for their family. The news of the opening of a criminal investigation causes more questions at a time when the family just wanted answers regarding the claims that were asserted in connection with the death of their mother and any settlements reached. Today this nightmare escalated for the family with the news of the opening of the criminal investigation into the death of Gloria Satterfield. Like everyone else now, they will see how it all unfolds.”

The case has recently been brought into new light as Alex Murdaugh, a prominent South Carolina lawyer, recently admitted to conspiring with a man to commit life insurance fraud.

There was a $505,000 insurance settlement in 2018 and our clients have not received any money at the time of this interview. They recently sent a notice of representation to attorney Cory Fleming to get “truth and answers” for their clients.

It is not known if any member of the Murdaugh family called 911 after the incident – nor is it clear how Satterfield was transported to the hospital, where she stayed for several weeks. Satterfield died on February 26, 2018.
