Zachary Hammond’s parents said Wednesday that the $2.15 million settlement with the city of Seneca over their son’s death at the hands of a Seneca police officer is just one part of their battle to keep such killing from happening again.

Angie Hammond, mother of the 19-year-old who was shot during an attempted drug bust in a parking lot last July, said she’s hopeful that his death will push lawmakers to reform laws related to the release of police videos, and prompt other changes in police procedures to prevent needless police shootings.

“It will not bring Zach back, but it will bring about change,” she said. “Zach did not die in vain.”
